Ever have one of those days when you get up in the morning, look in the mirror, and just want to crawl back into bed? Why? Because what’s looking back at you from the mirror is flat out scary! Whose hair is that anyway? It’s frizzy, sticks up in all directions, and has a million split ends – maybe more. Well, we’ve all been there. The thing is, we really like our hair but we’re always doing things to damage it.
Think curling, dying, stripping, tying, twisting, blow drying, and a lot more. All this takes a toll, and, in some instances, can even cause lasting damage. But the good news is that with just a little forethought and care, we can take very simple measures to keep our hair looking lustrous and full-bodied. And it’s so simple to do! Just follow these steps:
- Moisturize! Use a good moisturizing shampoo/conditioner and rub deeply into your scalp, then make sure to rinse completely.
- Always rinse your hair with cool water. This seals the pores and keeps essential oils in the hair and scalp to keep them moisturized.
- Never, ever brush your hair when it’s wet unless you want a gigantic case of the frizzies, and more split ends than you can count in a week. Use a wide-toothed comb! And above all, be gentle!
- If you have to use a hairdryer, put it on the lowest setting. Remember, you’re trying to dry your hair, not cook it. And whenever possible, let it air dry, or use a towel – gently!
- Throw all your flat irons, curling irons, and hot combs out! Or, if you’re too attached to them, use them as little as possible.
And there are other things you can do as well. Healthy hair depends on natural oil. If you over-dye or over-bleach your hair it will eventually become as dry as straw – and probably look worse! Always use the least possible amount of these chemicals to get the results you want.
Also, get your hair trimmed regularly to get rid of dead and split ends. This will prevent breakage and help your hair look longer and stronger.
